Monte Carlo is an administrative area of the Principality of Monaco. It's widely known for its casinos and prominence. It was only until 1868 with the building of a railroad that it became accessible to much of Europe. The combination of the casino and the railroad saw its wealth grow. A cruise ship pier was completed in its harbor in 2003. Monte Carlo is also home to Formula One racing, championship boxing, poker and backgammon championships. It is regularly visited by royalty and movie stars and is one of Europe's most visited tourist spots..
